Let the Children come to me…

‘Christianity is not another mystic religion, rather a new theory of life’ – Leo Tolstoy.

Mathew chp 19: vs14 - Let the little children come to me, for to such as these belongs the Kingdom of God. One of Jesus' most profound verses! I do not know if there is a better verse in the Bible which tells us the importance of instructing and moulding a child in God's ways to be citizens of His Kingdom. It is to train them to be the salt and light of this world.

Today Christianity is rather a matter of convenience. We are not reaching Christ’s benchmark in training our children enough to be witnesses unto Him. In this regard, we have a huge responsibility and accountability to God's Kingdom.

Today’s world is chaotic. Man is behind the lust of his eyes. We lose many children to the wayward ways of the world. We see helpless parents crying over their children. Where do we think the answer to this? Why are we still drowning in the sea of confusion and crime around us? Have we lost our vigour? True to say, the church has moulded and crafted several zealous young people for Christ. But let us not be satisfied and monotonous in our call from God. 2000 years ago, our Lord said ‘Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand’.  We are still miles away from reaching there. In His ’Great Commission’, Mathew 28:16 – 20, Jesus our Lord instructs us to make disciples of all nations. That is precisely the call for every follower of Christ. It is to make disciples for Christ. The word disciple is a herculean responsibility. It should connect us to the children in our hands because we are training them to undertake citizenship in the Kingdom of God. We must mould them to perfection to present them as unblemished lambs to our Lord Jesus.

In Mathew 5:16, Jesus says, ‘ Let your light shine before men that they may see your works and glorify your Father in Heaven.’ If we train our children rigorously to be the light unto this world, would not all wars, crimes and confusions be erased? Would there be a better example of spreading the gospel?

Each child is a child of God, created with a unique God-given purpose. Our most important goal is to help children realize their purpose and achieve it to perfection. The children in our hands are the seedlings of God's Kingdom. We are accountable for each little one. We must nurture them to grow in all their might and stature.
